Most lift station alarms come down to one of six things. In our experience, they run roughly in order from most to least common.
1. Stuck or tangled float. The float switch is a small buoyant device on a cord or a rod, and it can get caught on the pump, the discharge pipe, or a mat of scum and debris. A stuck float can read the water as low when it’s actually high, so the pump never gets the signal to turn on.
